Fibrelite Trench Specifications
GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
- SCOPE
1.1 Provide a fabricated composite underground utility trench system (for electrical cabling or mechanical piping) as provided by Trenwa, Inc; 1419 Alexandria Pike; Fort Thomas, KY 41075. The manufacturer must have experience in design and fabrication of similar products and with facilities for fabricating them with the quality specified herein and without delay to the specified schedule.
- DESIGN
2.1 The composite trench components shall be designed to conform to AASHTO M306: specifications for H20 loading. The trench bases and lids must be proof load tested to 40,000 lbs. per M306. They shall be tested individually and as a unit.
The components shall be lightweight and easily installed without lifting equipment. The trench shall be designed to withstand soil surcharge loading during installation and use such that the sidewalls do not flex in a manner to prevent the lids from fitting.
- MATERIALS
The composite trench assembly and materials shall conform to the following standards:
| H20 Loading AASHTO | M306-10 | Passed > 40,000 lbs |
| Compressive Strength | ASTM C-170 D6641 / D695 | Min. 17,000 psi |
| UV Radiation | ASTM G-53 | No visible change |

- REINFORCEMENT
4.1 The composite trench shall not be reinforced with steel or other metal components.
- SUBMITTALS
5.1 Engineering layout drawings will be provided for approval and to assist with field installation. The drawings will include dimensions, identification, and location of each trench part in the trench layout, along with a bill of material.
ROAD CROSSING TRENCH SPECIFICATIONS
- GENERAL
1.1 The trench system will consist of lightweight, high strength, U-shaped bases and removable covers, manufactured by Trenwa, and installed in earth trenches with covers extending above the surrounding crushed rock surface.
1.2 All sections of trench designated for road crossing use will be designed to carry HS20 (32,000) lbs. axle loading and will be furnished in standard 5 foot lengths and shall be light enough to be lifted by 2-4 people.
1.3 The lids for the road crossing trench will be made of FRP Composite materials designed to carry HS20 (32,000 pound) axle loading and shall be light enough to be lifted by 2-4 people.
1.4 The interior clear cross sectional area for the road crossing bases will be at least (20″) or (30″) wide x 16” deep.
1.5 The trench system shall be designed and constructed so that supplemental support such as protection rods or cross supports are not required.
